5 Tips for Measuring Objects Without Using a Ruler

A normal stride is around 65 cm while a long step can reach 100 cm. If, for example, you take 15 long steps, this means that you have measured a distance of 15 meters. This method is applied to measure distances or lengths of rooms or corridors without a meter.

In order to know the measurement of an object, it is possible to use an A4 sheet. The dimensions of the paper are usually found on its packaging. In the case of an A4 sheet, the dimension is always 29.7 cm by 21 cm.

The principle is to know the distance equivalences between each of the fingers: 2.5 cm is equal to the length of the first joint of the index finger. 5 cm is the equivalent of the length of the thumb. 10 cm equals the width measured across the knuckles of the hand, excluding the thumb. 15 cm corresponds to the distance between the tip of your thumb and the tip of your index finger when you spread your hand. 23 cm is the distance between the tip of your thumb and the tip of your little finger when your hand forms a fist but the two fingers are spread apart at the ends. 46 cm corresponds to the distance between the elbow and the tip of the middle finger.
