Apple Nachos with Apple Bourbon Caramel Sauce

Apple Nachos with Apple Bourbon Caramel Sauce
Ingredients:

For the Apple Nachos:

3-4 large apples (such as Honeycrisp, Fuji, or Granny Smith)
Juice of 1 lemon (to prevent browning)
For the Apple Bourbon Caramel Sauce:

1 cup granulated sugar
6 tablespoons unsalted butter
1/2 cup heavy cream
1/2 cup apple cider
1/4 cup bourbon (or apple juice for a non-alcoholic version)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
For Toppings:

Chopped nuts (such as walnuts, pecans, or almonds)
Mini marshmallows
Crushed graham crackers or pretzels
Chocolate chips or toffee bits
Shredded coconut
Fresh whipped cream or vanilla ice cream (optional)
Instructions:

Prepare the Apples:

Core and slice the apples into thin rounds or wedges. To prevent browning, toss the apple slices with lemon juice and set aside.
Make the Apple Bourbon Caramel Sauce:

In a medium saucepan, heat the granulated sugar over medium heat, stirring constantly until it melts and turns a golden amber color.
Carefully add the butter to the melted sugar, stirring until fully incorporated.
Slowly add the heavy cream, stirring continuously (the mixture will bubble vigorously).
Stir in the apple cider and bourbon (or apple juice), and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens.
Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and ground cinnamon, if using. Let the sauce cool slightly.
Assemble the Apple Nachos:
