Ghoul-Graveyard Cake

Prepare the Cake:

Preheat your oven according to the instructions on the cake mix box. Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking pan or two 9-inch round cake pans.
Mix the cake batter according to the package instructions or your homemade recipe.
Pour the batter into the prepared pan(s) and bake according to the package directions, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Allow the cake to cool completely in the pan before transferring it to a wire rack.
Prepare the Frosting:

In a large bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy.
Gradually add the powdered sugar and cocoa powder, mixing on low speed until combined.
Add the milk (or cream) and vanilla extract, and beat on high speed until the frosting is light and fluffy. If desired, add a few drops of green food coloring to give the frosting a mossy appearance.
Assemble the Cake:

If you baked the cake in round pans, level the cakes with a knife to make them even. If using a 9×13-inch pan, you can frost the entire cake in the pan.
Frost the entire cake with the chocolate frosting, smoothing it out with a spatula.
