Matilda’s Chocolate Fudge Cake

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
Add buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla to the flour mixture and beat until smooth.
Gradually add hot water and mix until the batter is combined. Stir in chocolate chips if using.
Divide batter evenly between the prepared pans.
Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Let cool in pans for 10 minutes, then turn out onto wire racks to cool completely.
