Homemade Szechuan Sauce

Homemade Szechuan Sauce
Ingredients:

1/4 cup soy sauce
2 tablespoons rice vinegar
2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
2 tablespoons chili paste (or Szechuan chili sauce)
1 tablespoon sugar
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
1 tablespoon sesame oil
1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 2 teaspoons water (for thickening)
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
Optional: 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (for extra heat)
Optional: 1 tablespoon chopped green onions or sesame seeds (for garnish)
Instructions:

1. Prepare the Sauce:
Heat Oil:

In a medium saucepan, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat.
Sauté Aromatics:

Add the minced garlic and ginger to the pan and sauté for about 1 minute, or until fragrant.
Combine Ingredients:

Add the soy sauce, rice vinegar, hoisin sauce, chili paste, and sugar to the pan. Stir to combine.
Simmer:

Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for about 2-3 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
Thicken:

Stir in the cornstarch-water mixture and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened to your desired consistency.
